FAQs

Have questions? Find out more.

What is "private pay"?

Private pay, also known as paying “out-of-pocket", means an individual or their family will use existing financial resources to cover the cost of therapy services.

How do I pay for services?

Prior to the start of services, the payer is asked to enter their credit or debit card information into a secure client portal. Session payments are processed automatically at the time of service.

What is a "superbill"?

A superbill is a detailed invoice outlining the therapy services a client received. It is used by clients to seek reimbursement from an insurance company when the clinician or clinic is not on an insurance company’s panel. The client submits the superbill directly to the insurer, giving the insurer all the information they need to pay the claim.

How do I make an appointment?

Therapy appointments at Inlet can be scheduled with your clinician by email or telephone. Prior to attending the first appointment, clients will be sent prerequisite intake forms. Forms are completed online through a secure client portal and reviewed with the clinician during the first session.

How do I cancel an appointment?

Appointments may be cancelled via email, phone or directly through the client portal. Appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance of the session. Otherwise, the payer is charged the full session rate of the missed appointment.

What happens at my child’s first appointment?

If you’ve chosen to seek services at Inlet, welcome! At the first appointment, your clinician will review completed forms and discuss policies, listen to concerns and answer any questions, discuss a treatment approach, and with time permitting, conduct an initial evaluation. The details of this evaluation may differ among clients and are based upon individual needs and speech-language therapy history.

How does Inlet partner with schools?

At Inlet, a child’s communicative success includes the carryover of newly learned skills to other contexts. In this case, school. Your clinician supports the generalization of skills to the school setting through consultation (e.g., phone calls/emails with teaching staff), direct therapy (e.g., pre-arranged therapy sessions within the school setting) and, when time permits, school meeting attendance (e.g., IEP annual reviews). The school-home relationship is meant to be robust and mutually-reinforcing. Inlet is here to facilitate the success of that partnership when it comes to your child's communication skills.

Is teletherapy a good option for my child?

Once the clinical relationship is well established, transitioning from in-person therapy to virtual therapy may be a good option for families with demanding schedules. Teletherapy requires a reliable internet connection, a computer and webcam, as well as a quiet and private space to conduct therapy sessions. Practically speaking, engaging in remote therapy can be highly motivating for some children, while others may find it difficult to sustain attention for the full duration of the session. Sessions are designed to use a combination of online and in-home materials (such as toys and objects). For younger children, in particular, caregivers may be asked to play a larger role in teletherapy sessions.
